Its also my very first handheld device from Nintendo, beside my PSP.

the Nintendo 3DS system and its accessories

We will focus first with the main system

The Nintendo 3DS has the same size as with today's Nintendo DSi, but the differences are the camera alignments, the Home and Select button is now under the touchscreen, an analog stick (called Circle Pad by nintendo), and also includes Motion Sensor and a Gyro Sensor. It also have a built-in microphone like the DSi.

The first screen is now more widescreen (but not same as PSP). As it only have 400x240 resolution. But the real resolution for 3DS is 800X240 since it will be using two different screens in both retinas in your eye when using a 3D effect. The lower screen is the same aspect ratio as with the old DS consoles, but both have more pixels because it use 320X240 resolution for the touchscreen (opposed to the 256 × 192 from old DS consoles)

It also now has a Home Button, (located below the touch screen with start and select button) where when you are playing 3DS games, you could go back to the main home screen then you can use some application while the game is paused in backgroud. I find it useful when playing Ghost Recon Shadow Wars. When playing DS games, the home button acts only as an exit menu just like when pressing home button in PSP.

The main feature of the 3DS is the Stereoscopic 3D effect on the upper screen of the 3DS. Its hard to show in picture how the 3D effect works, but if you could grab a 3DS, do try this feature. Its good for 3DS games like Super Street Fighter IV 3DS and the 3D effect works well here. If you have some problems with the 3D effect, you can use the 3D Depth Slider to adjust the 3D level effect or turn it off.

Also one of the cool feature of the 3DS is the 3D camera (though the camera resolution is only 640 x 480, it still great when you slide the 3D Slider to see the 3D effect. It have 2 3D cameras on the rear side and one 2D on the top of the screen. The camera also use for AR Games and with the Face Raider app which will be covered in the next review.

The Analog Stick (called Circle Pad in 3DS) is also a good addition to this hardware since im having some problem when using the Dpad for 3D DS games since you can't rotate 360 degrees with those.

The accelerometer and the gyroscope is also one of the main addition with 3DS. just like with Iphones, you can use accelerometer for games using tilting functions (though the built in games only uses it for a while). The Motion input form the accelerometer have been incorporated with the pedometer that acts as a counter for Game Coins for 3DS. For other built in apps, i will include that in the separate review.

I cant test the internet function for the 3DS since it still do not have the internet browser built in. It will be included in the next firmware update of the 3DS.

Streetpass and Spotpass also one of the added features of the 3DS. in Streetpass you can locate one 3DS and exchange some data or you can fight with your fellow 3DS ssfiv figurines then check out later who will win, or communicate with other 3DS systems if their streetpass is on. Spotpass seek Wi-Fi signals then automatically download content while in sleep mode.

The battery life is what some was disappointed. For a 3DS games, it will only be able to use up to 5 hrs max (depending on the 3DS hardware settings) and 8-9 hrs on DS games. But for me i've already cope with that since the original PSP do have only 5hrs battery life depending also with the hardware settings.

The best of all, it is backward compatible with all DS games using slot 1 (since guitar hero ds uses slot 2). It will add more game library to fill up lack of games with the 3DS today and to entice you up until you wait Resident Evil games in 3DS.

Over-all, this new device makes a new experience when playing a handheld console. Not mainly because it has 3D, but as the whole system itself.

Prices in Manila is around 13000 in peso (in Datablitz its 13500 but if in cash only 13000)
3DS games around 1800-2000 depends on the title
